LG tiiun is a new home appliance.
While a gardening machine is sure to break new ground for the electronics giant, it will retain a certain familiarity for longtime LG customers. Its humidity, light and temperature controls are based on established technologies used in the company’s refrigerators and other appliances. Its sleek and simple appearance reinforces this bond, and what’s inside the air-conditioned garden cabinet has already made it a CES 2022 Innovation Award winner before its debut.
How it works?
The LG tiiun is a self-contained plant grower, and it has an assortment of features to make kitchen gardening easier. Its two shelves can each hold up to six all-in-one seed packets (from three sets of seed kits), and each packet has enough holes to germinate up to 10 seeds each.
No information was given on how the third-party greens might fit on tiiun’s shelves, but LG confidently says shoppers will be able to take the plants from seed to maturity in 1-2 months. That’s thanks to proprietary temperature controls, a “smart gardening system” that waters eight times a day while maintaining optimal humidity levels, and amplified LED lighting through tiiun’s internal design to “increase the efficiency of photosynthesis.

The window to these smart horticultural processes is literal, and the clear door’s airtight seal keeps pests and weather out. Combined with the ambient LED lighting inside, the transparent opening adds an instant touch of greenery to the room the device is in. The door also allows owners to keep an eye on their plants while tending to them. Even when away, LG ThinQ app users can still monitor their plants, receive water tank fill notifications, and adjust settings while on the go.
Two stylish color choices further accentuate the decorating potential of the LG tiiun: Nature Green and Nature Beige. These neutral tones should help the device easily blend in or stand out from its surroundings.
